The Team

The Healing Community Hawaii is a gathering place for friends, families, guests, and community members to engage in life-changing learning and healing experiences within a safe and supportive environment.

One of the most valuable assets of The Healing Community Hawaii project is its management team. As overseers of every aspect of the initiative, the team brings together extensive experience, corporate insight, and heartfelt passion—ensuring that all objectives are met and often exceeded. The Healing Community Hawaii partners with some of the most accomplished and seasoned professionals in their respective fields to guarantee the project’s long-term success.

Gary Genco—CEO—Director

Gary Genco has over 35 years of experience in finance, real estate development, and business. He is a dynamic entrepreneur with deep expertise in business strategy, product management, and market analysis. In addition to his business acumen, Gary is highly skilled in training, coaching, and counseling—helping individuals find direction, hope, and renewed purpose.

In 2014, he founded The Healing Heart Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that now serves as the foundation for Healing Community Hawaii.

Many years ago, Gary and his wife, Diane, felt called to build an oasis—a place where missing and abused children, adults, and their families could receive inner healing, support, and the resources necessary to reclaim their lives.

Living in Hawaii, Gary began developing the first phase of Healing Community Hawaii, which will serve as the organization’s international headquarters in the United States.

 

David Webster - Director

David Webster has worked for over 40 years in the alternative health and medical field. Most recently, he served with the Red Cross, providing assistance to survivors of the Lahaina Wildfire. He also completed the CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) training program to further enhance his medical skills and preparedness for natural disasters.

David is certified in counseling troubled teens and has experience conducting interventions when needed.

David is also certified in credit repair, helping clients restore their financial standing and achieve a fresh start with a stronger, higher FICO score.


In addition to his medical and humanitarian work, David has a strong background in product development, advertising, and marketing expansion. He is also experienced in film funding and production, with involvement through White Owl Films -  https://whiteowlfilms.com/index.html.

Julianna Danson - Director

Julianna is a member of an international healing team dedicated to organic gardening projects, tiny home housing solutions, and emergency preparedness initiatives

.

An award-winning author, she combines vivid imagination with emotional depth to create compelling stories that are beautifully enhanced by powerful imagery.

She also has extensive experience counseling and supporting individuals experiencing homelessness, helping people overcome drug and addiction challenges while guiding them toward long-term recovery, stability, and renewed purpose.

John Meyer - Director

John Meyer has been in management for 29 years, beginning with the trucking industry, working as an outside sales manager for 10 of those years. 

 

His experience also includes working as a Regional Training Manager overseeing multiple retirement communities throughout Oregon, California and
Hawaii, ranging in size from 120 to 200 units with approx. 30 employees in each building.

 
John is a natural leader with good training, coaching, communication, financial handling, and record-keeping skills. He also holds a current Train the Trainer Certification, helping HR Professionals become more skilled in placing employees in their right roles within the company.

 

Alan Hauge - Director/Media

Alan Hauge was the founder and CEO of GMT Studios for the last thirty nine years. Mr. Hauge won the prestigious "Telly Award" for the "To End All Wars," television ad campaign starring Kiefer Sutherland and Robert Carlyle.  Hauge also produced and directed the  made for television show "The Late Great Planet Earth"  The show's success increased book sales to over fifty million (50,000,000) readers, making it the New York Times' number one bestseller of the 1970s.  

 

Recently Produced and Directed “James Dean American Legend," featuring Anthony Michael Hall, and is the only Hollywood Producer to ever read the lost diary of the screen legend, James Dean.​

Alan is also a pioneer in helping our team utilize the most reliable information sources alongside cutting-edge technology from the world’s leading companies. Our mission is to do everything humanly possible to locate missing children quickly—especially within the critical first 72 to 90 hours. This commitment is the driving force behind our television series, America’s Missing Children.

​Alan serves as the Healing Community’s in-house media expert, providing strategic guidance and high-quality production support across all projects.

 

Dr. Angel Rhoades - Director

Dr. Rhoades holds a doctorate in Orthomolecular Psychiatry. Orthomolecular psychiatry is a branch of medicine that aims to use natural substances to correct biochemical imbalances. It's goal or Orthomolecular Medicine is to improve health and address disease by providing varying concentrations of nutrients including vitamins, minerals, and amino acids. 

 Since opening her private practice in 2008, she has been committed to helping individuals overcome mental illness—viewed as the dysregulation of the body, manifested through neuropsychiatric symptoms—and achieve lasting, optimal health. 

Elle Kawata - Director


Elle has been involved in real estate sales, finance and development for over 25 years. In 2008 she founded S3 – Smart Sustainable Solutions – to develop a sustainable modular building system primarily to address the tremendous need for affordable housing in her home state of Hawaii.

 

Her company received a Green Design Award for its first project—the Waldorf School of Orange County’s 10,000-square-foot high school expansion. She has since assembled a solid team of professionals who are ready to create healthy communities anywhere in the world. S3’s mission, “to successfully develop low-cost building solutions to aid in creating green and sustainable communities globally,” fits in perfectly with the goals and ambitions of the Healing Community.

Susanne Friend &; Tim Mann – Aquaponics Specialist

Aquaponics is the combination of aquaculture (raising fish) and hydroponics (the soil-less growing of plants) that grows fish and plants together in one integrated system. The fish waste provides an organic food source for the plants, and the plants naturally filter the water for the fish.

Dr Robert Ornelas - Director

Dr. Ornelas has a long history of working with military bases across the United States, providing support for military families of all branches. His work includes significant engagements at Joint Base Pearl Harbor–Hickam in Oʻahu, where he has collaborated with military families, chaplains, youth programs, and cultural groups. He also honors and supports Native American and Native Hawaiian service members and has worked with the Hawai‘i National Guard, bringing encouragement, cultural grounding, and healing support to those who serve our nation.

Dr. Ornelas is deeply rooted in mental health and homeless outreach. He previously served with Encompass Recuperative Care in Long Beach, working with the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health as a Stabilization Specialist, serving individuals facing homelessness—including Native Americans and Native American veterans—with trauma-informed care, cultural support, and crisis stabilization.

He is also a national voice in the fight to end Missing and Murdered Indigenous People (MMIP) and served as the main speaker at the Northern Ute Indian Tribe’s MMIP Conference in Fort Duchesne, Utah.

Dr. Ornelas has been ceremonially adopted into families from the Navajo, Apache, Crow, and Cocopah tribes—relationships that reflect covenant trust, deep loyalty, and cultural honor.

Today, Dr. Robert “Battle Ax” Ornelas stands as a bridge-builder—uniting music, advocacy, diplomacy, faith, and cultural authority to serve Indigenous people across nations and generations.

 

​Cary Hardwick - Director

Cary brings over 30 years of experience in building successful businesses in the fine-dining arena. Throughout his journey, he has learned what works and what doesn’t—insights he now applies when helping others establish a solid foundation for long-term success.

Together with his wife, Joy, Cary co-founded C.J. Studios, a consulting and promotions company dedicated to helping entrepreneurs and creatives elevate their brands through intentional storytelling and strategic marketing. His content often features meaningful conversations with chefs, artists, and fellow travelers, offering a deeper look into the cultures and flavors that inspire his commitment to continual improvement and strong results.

Cary is a valuable asset to the Healing Community Hawaii, where he teaches, mentors, and supports individuals working to rebuild their lives and futures

Tom Attala - Director

Tom Attalla is a former foreign intelligence specialist for the US Army where he held a Top-Secret Clearance. He holds degrees from Ecole Institute Monte Rosa, Pepperdine University, and Patten Christian College as well as being an alumnus of the Defense Language Institute in Monterey. He studied post graduate Financial Planning at UCLA and studied Mediation at the National Conflict Institute.

 

Being proficient in English, French, German, Spanish, and Korean with elementary Thai, Greek, Arabic and Patois, Mr Attalla used his skills in the Entertainment Industry working in New Technologies. While acting as a Senior Financial Analyst at Sony, he was recruited to be part of the DVD Development Team there and then ran the Operations and Quality Control for the Digital Video Compression Center at Universal Studios. He retired from the Entertainment Industry leaving SDI Media USA, the world's largest subtitling and dubbing company with credits for Mastering over a 1,000 feature films to DVD for Disney, MGM, New Line Cinema, Polygram, and Universal Studios as well as Subtitling and Dubbing an additional 2,000 feature films and several thousand hours of television. Mr. Attalla oversaw DVD Tech, Film & Media Divisions as well as Dubbing for SDI Media in 27 countries.

 

In 2008, he participated in the founding of the Global Humanitarian Photojournalists Organization, a 501C directly under the United Nations Association where he still to this day remains an active Board Member and has dedicated his life to improving the quality of people's lives all around the world.

 

Having moved to Maui in 2021 he has made himself available to his community in cultural programs through being a Steersman Ho'Okele for several Outrigger Canoe Clubs on the island and is very active in his community.​​​​​

Phil Merna - Director

Phil hails from Montana and has made his living as a ranch cowboy and wilderness guide across Montana, Wyoming, Arizona, Idaho, Texas, and even the Big Island of Hawaii. His extensive experience on horseback has opened the door to meaningful work with troubled teens, using horsemanship and the responsibility of caring for animals as powerful tools for healing, stability, and growth. His knowledge extends well beyond horses—Phil has a deep understanding of many different animal species and how they can positively impact people.

In addition to his work in animal-based therapy, Phil has been actively involved in providing homes for homeless veterans and offering counsel, encouragement, and hope to survivors of domestic abuse.

Phil is also an accomplished artist, with paintings and other works featured in galleries around the world—from Montana to Tahiti. His artistic journey ultimately led him into the entertainment industry, where he has become an established scriptwriter and producer. He has a new television series entering production with Amazon and several upcoming feature films he has written. Phil is the CEO of Wings of Eagles Studios—a new studio being developed in Montana, Arizona, and Hawaii, dedicated to restoring moral values and family-centered storytelling to major motion pictures. He is deeply committed to addressing the moral crisis he sees in today’s entertainment industry and to creating content that uplifts and strengthens young people and families.

Phil has also worked extensively in film financing and in raising capital for various mining ventures to support and advance these creative projects.
